There are a couple of events that are the climax of Beautiful Creatures. One moment is when Sarafine was trying to connect with Lena and with Sarafine's powers she tried killing Lena, they weren't actually together though. Macon Ravenwood was trying to cast a spell that would protect her againt any evil powers and that's when Sarafine tried killing her.
The biggest event that was the turning point was the day that Lena was turning sixteen. One important character died right before she was going to be "chosen." While she was talking to Sarafine, she told Lena that she had to choose now if she wanted to be a dark caster or a light caster. If she was a dark caster, the light casters would instantly die. But if she was a light caster, then all the dark casters of her family would die.
The event that turns the story around is that when Sarafine tells Lena that she needs to decide. Lena was under the impression from Macon that there was another caster that would be choosing for her. During most of the book they are researching and talking to Macon and Amma about what they should do to make sure that Lena turns to be a light caster.
